Tabbo Rescue Boat

Missing Persons Association Launches Rescue Boat

Wednesday 17 Dec 2003

The Missing Persons Association , to which this website is associated, launched its own search and rescue boat on Wednesday (17 December 2003) in Cork Harbour. The money for the boat was raised by the O'Connell family in memory of their son, Tim O'Connell who was missing for a time before being found deceased. The boat is named after his nickname "Tabbo". It was launched from Penrose Quay in Cork Habour. On that occasion a wreathe was also laid in memory of Tim O'Connell and all the others who have been recovered from the Lee over the last year by the civil defence, the emergency and fire services, the Canine Search and Rescue, the Mallow Inshore Search and Rescue and the Missing Persons Association. It is hoped that the new boat will be an extra resource to assist those in the recovery of people from the Lee in association with other services. The new boat also has the facility to display the website address.
