07/07/2007 It is encouraging to note that Missing in Ireland Support services (www.miss.ie) are reporting positive feedback in respect of their discussions with the Commission for Support of Victims of Crime in June. Their discussions related to the restoration of the missing persons helpline. It is hoped that the Commission will look at ways of increasing the grant available.
But they will need to source other funding also in order to run the helpline. They are currently looking for corporate or private donations. If you are in a position to support them please see their website for more details on how you can help.. |

22/06/2007 When I started this website over seven and half years ago, its primary focus was to highlight the cases of people missing from or in Ireland. But then I started receiving requests from people who were searching for relatives who were not missing but who had lost contact over the years. It was for this reason that I set up a lost contact section to the website. It is by far the largest section of the website and one that involves more of my time. It has also been successfull in helping to reunite lost contacts.
Unfortunately, I do not have the time to continue this section of the website and so for the time being will not be adding any new appeals to that section of the website. Perhaps someone else may in due course set up a lost contact website for Ireland. You will find UK lost contact websites in the links section of this website.

07/06/2007 The Garda Annual Report for 2006 was published today. Every year for the last 7 years I have read the reports with interest particularly in relation to the Statistics for missing persons reports. I have compiled the statistics for the last number of years in the "About.ws" page. This year's report does not include detailed statistics as in previous years. This is a pity as the practice of making the detailed statistics available was helpful. It is not clear as to why the practice of publishing detailed statistics on missing persons reports has ceased.
Page 17 of the report states that for the year 2006, 6,811 people were reported missing and by year's end, 108 remained untraced. As in previous years, the figure continues to rise. |
